So you want to host a tournament?

At Pickle and Chill, we want to help make your special event or fundraiser a success.

We have had experience with a variety of tournament formats and can recommend the following options. Of course, you're always welcome to create your own format if you'd like.

We highly recommend the use of a FREE site called Fwango to create your brackets and enter scores. If you are tech-savvy and want to do this on your own it is very user-friendly. If you want to provide us with a spreadsheet of participants, we can create the brackets for you. Results can easily be entered by participants, cutting down on the busywork of organizers of volunteers.

Bracket-Style Format:

  • Select your number of teams - a multiple of four

  • Decide what divisions/levels you want (we recommend at least two levels)

  • Generate a bracket depending on the number of teams you selected - you can do either single or double-elimination

  • You can award, Ist, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishers

Round-Robin Style Format:

  • Select your number of teams - a multiple of four

  • Decide what divisions/levels you want (we recommend at least two levels)

  • Generate a round-robin bracket accordingly

  • Winners are determined by WIL record first, head-to-head record second

Combination of Round-Robin and Bracket Tournament

This is a good option if you have a portion of people who are less competitive, and you want to avoid getting them tied into a long tournament.

  • Select the number of participants for the Round-Robin group stage; you can likely have more since a good portion of them will be eliminated

  • Winners from each of the Round Robins advance to the championship bracket

  • You will set the number of Round Robins to be a multiple of four, use the Round Robin to determine who advances to the Championship bracket - you can advance just first-place winners or first and second-place winners

  • Once the Round Robin is completed, you put the winners into the championship bracket and play it through to completion to crown the champion.
